Harvard-Westlake School
FOCUS:
Character & the pursuit of excellence
Independent critical thinking is key to the pedagogical ethos of this school. Pupils are encouraged to undertake original research supported by the Scholar-in-Residence programme where noted scholars and intellectuals come to address pupils. They also benefit from an interdisciplinary approach where they are exposed to coursework, content and approaches from multiple or nontraditional disciplines and they area encouraged to embrace learning beyond the traditional classroom. Given the schools close proximity to Hollywood, it is no surprise that the performing arts have a significant role in the school and the annual student-run film festival hosted on-campus, titled ‘Westflix’, has been running for twenty-years. Well known alumni include Shirley Temple and Jake Gyllenhall.
